In my last post, I unpacked why a viral quote—falsely attributed to Erykah Badu—resonated so deeply.
Now let’s go further.
Because the real issue isn’t just what’s being said.
It’s what’s not being done.
🧠 We Keep Talking Around the Same Problem
Tithing has been happening for generations.
Churches collect:
-weekly offerings
-monthly commitments
-annual donations
And yes—some of that money goes to:
-food drives
-clothing banks
-outreach programs
That’s good work.
But let’s be honest:
That’s maintenance. Not transformation.
📚 The Blueprint Already Exists
This isn’t new information.
PowerNomics laid out, in detail, how Black communities can build economic power through:
-group economics
-ownership
-strategic investment
-circulating dollars within the community
The problem?
Most people have never read it.
And most institutions don’t teach it.
💰 Let’s Talk About What Has NOT Been Done
If churches are collecting tithes consistently…
Why aren’t we seeing:
*investment funds built from tithes
*stock portfolios managed for the community
*financial literacy classes as part of ministry
*dividend payouts back to members
Read that again.
Because this is where the conversation usually stops.
🏠 Baltimore Has $1 Homes… So What Are We Waiting For?
Let’s bring it home.
In Baltimore, there are programs where homes can be acquired for $1 under certain conditions.
So here’s the question nobody wants to ask out loud:
Why aren’t churches pooling tithes to:
💵 purchase properties
renovate them
🤰🏾place struggling mothers and families inside
Not temporarily.
Ownership. Stability. Dignity.
🛠 Stop Giving Screws… Start Giving Tools
Right now, too many systems operate like this:
Give food → they eat for a day
Give clothes → they’re warm for a season
But what about:
equity?
ownership?
income-generating opportunities?
Because let’s be real:
You can’t donation your way out of economic oppression.
⛪ Churches Already Have the Infrastructure
Let’s not pretend this would be difficult.
Churches already have:
consistent income (tithes)
organized communities
leadership structures
physical spaces
influence
So this isn’t about capacity.
It’s about priority.
🔥 So Let’s Say the Quiet Part Out Loud
If tithes are being collected…
and wealth is not being built…
then we have to ask:
Who is the system really working for?
🌱 What This Could Look Like (Real, Not Theoretical)
Imagine if one church decided to do this:
10% tithe → split into:
community investment fund
emergency support
ownership initiatives
Monthly:
teach stock investing
track collective portfolio growth
Annually:
pay dividends back to members
purchase property for families
That’s not radical.
That’s strategy.
🧿 This Isn’t About Tearing Down—It’s About Leveling Up
Nobody is saying: “Don’t give.”
We’re saying: “Give in a way that multiplies.”
Because faith without strategy?
Leaves people inspired…
but still struggling.
✨ Final Reflection
We don’t need more conversations about the problem.
We need:
implementation
transparency
measurable outcomes
Because the truth is:
We’ve had the resources.
We’ve had the people.
We’ve had the system.
What we haven’t had…
is the shift.
Until now.
