I had a friend once question me about hand positions associated with yoga.
She is a Christian, and her children started showing interest in what I had been doing. She wondered if the hand movements conjured negative spirits and wanted to be sure if those hand movements or yoga would create in adverse affect in their faith.

As a homeschool mom, I encourage my children to practice yoga for mental, spiritual, and emotional reasons as children especially small ones have meltdowns quite often and introducing them to better lifestyles, yoga, and meditation would decrease stress, anxiety, and other unhealthy habits.
Yoga is not a religion it is a lifestyle with positive Inner-G and it can be practiced by children and also men.
I saw this as a positive direction for me and didn’t feel like it would be fair to keep it from them, it is taught in our homeschool life along with other school subjects. I was happy to explain this to my friend and she began to feel okay with her children using hand mudras. It made me question if she had been told it was evil and not pleasing to the Creator? And just how many religious leaders are teaching this? Or did she come up with this all her own?
I found that many hate what they do not understand and refuse to do the research. Some really hate to be wrong and won’t learn anything different than what they had been taught, living in fear. I appreciated my friend for asking me about it, instead of just telling her children to stop doing what they were doing, because initially she had been doing so. We are not suppose to be the same as our parents, we are suppose to be individuals having different experiences. Some traditions can be discontinued or modified. It’s called growth or simply curse breaking.
Neither of my parents practice yoga, are both Christians and did not raise me to explore other things outside Christianity. I don’t do it to rebel, I do it because I learned there was so much more out in the world other than what our family has been believing for generations, did not know and may have been afraid to research anything else

Reasons people may avoid yoga: .

Believe it doesn’t help with weight loss
Think it is not heart healthy
It’s only for girls
Are out of shape
It conjures evil spirits
There are so many benefits to practicing yoga, that have helped me tremendously
