Breaking the Chains: How Religious Beliefs Influence Our Work Mentality

By Reiki RaEss

Working Hard or Hardly Free?

Growing up, I often heard the saying, “Work hard now, your reward is in heaven.” I saw my elders work tirelessly, often accepting exhaustion and suffering as necessary steps toward a future heavenly reward. Empress, let’s be real—this mindset didn’t sit right with me. It felt too much like a legacy of spiritual slavery, promising liberation only after a lifetime of struggle.

Shifting My Perspective

Stepping away from these ingrained religious narratives was transformative. I realized that this idea of delayed gratification—suffering now for reward later—was deeply rooted in religious conditioning. The more I leaned into my personal spirituality, the clearer it became: work should not drain your soul, but uplift and empower it.

Homeschooling, entrepreneurship, Reiki healing, and blogging taught me that work can align with passion, purpose, and prosperity simultaneously. It doesn’t have to feel heavy or burdensome. Instead, work can and should be joyful, fulfilling, and aligned with your authentic self.

Reclaiming My Inner-G

As a Positive Inner-G Coach, I teach that true liberation involves balancing our energy—particularly through the Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras. When these energy centers are aligned, we naturally gravitate towards work that nourishes us rather than drains us. We understand that we are worthy of experiencing fulfillment and abundance right now, not only in a distant afterlife.

Liberating the Next Generation

In my homeschool journey, I intentionally break the pattern of teaching my children to “work hard and suffer silently.” Instead, I teach them to follow their curiosity, intuition, and joy. Our lessons involve chakra balancing, affirmation practices, and ancestral wisdom, empowering them to choose a path aligned with their inner purpose rather than societal or religious expectations.

Work as a Sacred Act

Imagine a world, Empress, where every task you undertake feels like sacred work—whether you’re homeschooling, blogging, crafting, or nurturing your plant babies. By releasing outdated religious views about labor, I’ve discovered that true spiritual alignment means working smarter, not harder; working from a space of passion and abundance, not scarcity and fear.

It’s time to break the chains of religious conditioning and reclaim work as a divine and liberating act of creation.
