My Child Never Went to School

A Journey of Healing, Trust, and Intuition

When I say my child never went to school, I mean it. She never sat in a classroom, lined up for lunch, or had to raise her hand for permission to speak. She was never forced to silence parts of herself to fit into a system designed without her in mind.

And that decision?
It wasn’t easy—but it was necessary.

The Moment I Knew

I chose to homeschool after witnessing too many red flags. The erasure and distortion of Black history in public schools was already unsettling. But I also faced the weight of chronic illness, the anxiety of not having reliable family for transportation when I was unable to drive, and the deeper discomfort of depending on others for something as sacred as my child’s education.

One day, I attended a school function where Muslim children were forced to pray in “Jesus’ name.” That was it for me. The lack of respect for spiritual diversity shook me. I couldn’t unsee it. I realized then that I couldn’t trust a system that didn’t honor who we were spiritually, culturally, or energetically.

The Doubt Was Loud

At first, I was drowning in doubt. I’d been called “ditsy” by peers. Judgment followed me. The system makes you feel like you need credentials to teach your own child. But when I finally realized all I needed was the Dollar Tree, a computer, and a printer—I was in the game.

That’s when I got creative.

I Started Where I Was

I was deep into learning about the Chakras when I looked at my toddlers, Zyzy and Meme, and thought, “Why not teach them too?” So, over breakfast, we’d go over the chakra colors together. I printed visuals and hung them on the fridge.

Eventually, I discovered Teachers Pay Teachers and tapped into other homeschool resources—but I still felt like something was missing. The lessons I was downloading didn’t speak to what my spirit knew my girls needed.

So I started making my own.

Teaching While Healing

I was going through a transformation—mentally, emotionally, spiritually—and I didn’t want my daughters to have to heal from the same wounds I was just learning how to close.

So I taught them as I was learning.
We covered math, writing, art, and reading…
But we also talked about healing, protection, energy, and African (Egyptian) principles. And the more I poured into them, the more I discovered layers of healing within myself.

What I Tell Every Parent

You don’t need a degree to homeschool. You need a little common sense, a lot of love, and the willingness to grow alongside your child.

One day, someone told me:

“All you need is a 5th grade education, and a little psychology, to make it in this world.” That blew my mind.

And when I asked my retired math teacher mother-in-love how much of what’s taught in school really gets used in life, she and my retired post office supervisor father-in-love answered, “Not much.”

That was my confirmation.

This Isn’t Just Homeschooling—It’s Soul Schooling

My child may have never gone to school…
But she learned to know herself and graduated at 16!
She learned to trust her mother’s voice, her own intuition, and the sacredness of being different.

And if that’s not education—what is?
