Don’t you?
Growing up, I always had issues with people sort of telling me I was fake or phony or I forgot where I came from. None of which was true.
…there are areas where I need to improve
It was not until later in life I realized most people were jealous. I was naïve thinking that no one had a reason to be envious of me at all. Anytime someone steps out of their element, it should not be looked at as they are pretending, they should be celebrated for growing.
I may not have known what I was doing, but I was just doing me.
As a homeschool mom and wife, there are areas where I need to improve, however as I am improving, I feel like I am not the person I have improved to be. In fact, being diagnosed with an illness can make one feel as though, you are no more than how a physician sees you or others who think that they know you.
Because of the past issues, I still hear the voices of those who do not believe in my ideas, especially homeschooling!
“you were not taught that way in school”
As black people we are expected to do more and be better! But my siblings, parents nor their parents were homeschooled and all I ever wanted for my children was to do better; give them things I did not have.
So when others whom I love say things to me like “you were not taught that way in school” or my children’s black doctor is looking at me like sending them to school would be best when they are not able to control bullying issues, school shootings and COVID-19.
I chose to homeschool long before, these issues caused other families made their choices for all the issues combined.
My children are not able to speak 8 languages or use instruments, but they are becoming business minded, they are able to problem solve, and know who they are. I am proud of this. I want them to have a childhood they can appreciate but also know what they are being taught is based on their interest.
I find ways to listen then create assignments and projects surrounding their interests. I want to make sure they are heard and their interests matter.
No this is not what I was taught in school. My history classes made me ashamed to be black and I wanted to be white; some one I was not or could ever be. This led me to explore different options in life so that I would no longer be ashamed of being black and rethink everything I learned from everywhere school and home.
Each time I learned something new, I was led to truths that family members were ok with not knowing or refused to accept. It did not stop me from learning, changing or growing.
I did not want my children to feel like they spent time learning about things they did not need or make them feel like they were inferior. They are empowered and enlightened using tools they can use that include faces that look like them so they will feel confident about what they are learning and how.
I gained confidence in delivering their lessons when I learned about other homeschool teaching methods. This made me understand that others will not comprehend I am not going to teach the same way schools do, because I homeschool I want to be something that I am not, I am not a teacher, I am a homeschool mom, that experience and learn with my children.
I am also a truckers wife, writer and crafter. All of which, I was not before. I studied and learned what works best and improve as I go.
If you are family or parent who is interested in homeschooling, check out the book I have on where to start. It is a Step-By-Step Guide to Homeschooling

Knowing where to begin homeschooling will give you confidence and in your children because, just as all children do not learn the same all homeschool parents do not teach the same and should not be expected to be someone they are not to appease everyone.
I want to be someone I am not just for me. I like learning and implementing new ways to eat, live and be guided by the spirit. It’s called growth, I am not the same person I was 20 or 10 years ago, just last year my life was different and this time next year I will be better than I am today.
