Back when my oldest daughter was in high school, in her spare time, she used to do a little “DJing”. The funny thing is she never would share her talent with anyone really, so we kinda just kept it amongst us. I wish I hadn’t; she began to work, graduated, graduated again, became a mom and then there became less time and interest.
I was her #1 fan, I could not wait for her next mix. See she didn’t just DJ, she is a girl who could chop and screw music and in my eyes just as great as DJ Screw or even OG Ron C !
Her work was unique and would allow freedom to manifest in any realm; conversation or thought! I still have her mixes on my phone. I do not listen to music nearly as much as I should but when I do one of her songs may play in the mix and I put my hand over my mouth like I have not heard in 20 years!
So, today I told her “I need my DJ back!”. We had a brief discussion but I definitely was serious about what I said. She has it honest, my oldest brother became a DJ when he was 16, while we were living overseas (Great Britain).
My brother DJ Crash worked every day after school to save for his equipment. I know he was tired of my other brother and I being his look-out while he practiced on my Pops‘ turntables.
Once he brought them home it was over; he practiced each morning before school.
This was my second coming into loving music. The first was with my parents’ house parties before they divorced.
I am proud of both my brother and my daughter. I enjoy my brother and his band Dirty Wormz live. I make an attempt to catch a show each time I go home to Austin, TX.
I believe I am going to do what I should have done a while back which is invest in getting the equipment she needs to start it up again.
I am ready
